View Full Version : Its NOT the Red Arrows.......
...........Its just my first attempt at this formation flying thingy,
and it aint easy!
The video got 'degraded' quite a bit during the rendering stage, but I
suppose that was to be expected considering that the raw footage was
13.7 Gigs (yes Gigs), which is now reduced to 41 megs. This has
affected the sound/image sync, especially at the beginning of the vid
during the long range zooming. Also the picture quality is no where as
good as what it is on my machine.
OK, I'm still learning this video game so all constructive criticism,
comments, likes and dislikes are most welcome. There are one or two
continuity errors, but if you don't look too closely maybe you wont
notice :-)

Nicely done. It looked like creative editing came to the rescue of the two
wing-men a couple of times - i.e. they had an air-hit but you cut that out
;-). I didn't care much for the bright primary coloured smoke, but that's
probably a question of personal taste. Looked a bit stuttery particularly
at the beginning and during taxiing. Maybe turn a few options down/off
before filming next time or perhaps have less "static" machinery on the
ground that has to be rendered and therefore eats fps. On the whole though,
good effort. :-)

I think it has got more to do with the rendering. I'm messing about with
that at the moment and so far I have two better copies than the one I

Love it. Particularly your song :P (and now you have something to
counter-sue with if someone keeps a copy as evidence *chuckle*).
Have you tried formation with a different plane? I found the 172 to be
unwieldy in formation flying but people still tend to use it because
they think of the 172 as the "easy" or "beginner's" plane on the sim.

Not yet Sammy.......I had a quick go with a Tomcat but at the time
thought that was a bit ambitious. I wanted to make this video with a
flight of Chinooks, but as we know that's not possible. This formation
flying has opened a whole new experience for me and I will certainly be
trying other aircraft. Thanks for all your help and tips.

Thanks. I cant ever see me making a video without background music. One
of the big challenges is to TRY and sync the audio with the visual. If
one can get it right it has quite an impact on the finished product.

I have found that this formation flying has opened up a whole new way of
flying for me. However, in the video you only saw the good bits, there
must have been over 10 Gigs of footage on the 'cutting room floor'.

Seems a shame Mad Mike wasn't given a whole airplane to use, but I
guess he couldn't afford to rent a 172 : ) What was he doing in
Chilliwack anyway? Not sure if I was imagining it, but I think I saw
the Chinook taxiing on the tarmac sideways, but I'm never surprised at
what schnooks can do.

Ahrrrr! You got me there SE. I just re-ran the video to see if the
Shnook did actually move sideways. Then I remembered two things: I had
switched the engines off so that the rotor blades were stationary; and I
MADE the video and didn't have any Schnook taxiing. :-)
BTW, did you see what happened to your plane after Crash Lander *backed*

Nice blend of sim-footage and real footage, and I like your flame

But did you really have to kill off Mad Mike and his flying roto-rooter?
I especially like how the main building at the Chilliwack airport has the
elevation in huge letters right at the top of it for everyone to see.
That's a darn good idea!
I wonder how many other GA airports and airfields around the world

I liked it! I know it's difficult flying in formation, sure does ad a
new element to the flightsim experience. I like the hover craft
vehicle! Takes a lot of gonads to fly one of those really high! Great
choice of music as well. You're takeoff formation was flawless.

Discovery Channel (or was it NGC??) did a whole documentary on it.
I knew about most of it, but exactly how it was all done was news to me.
It's pretty interesting to follow the whole story.
The city of New Orleans has the same problem Holland does and from
what I've read their officials are talking to our officials to solve it.

Canada has a perfect solution to that: in British Columbia there are still
drivingschool cars that can be operated from both the left and the right
side of the car. The instructor can take over whenever necessary.
I've seen them in the 70's, 80's and 90's, but I didn't expect to seen one
in downtown Vancouver last year!!
According to family (that are spread out all over BC), these cars are
all over the place.
But it would never work here.
Dutch men would never allow their wives the oppertunity to take
control of the car whenever they feel like it. It's already WWIII when
it comes to navigating during a holiday.
Picture this:
Whenever you speed, she steps on the brakes.
Whenever she parallel parks, you do the steering for her.

Pretty dangerus, if you ask me, what happens in a panic situation, when 2
people are trying to avoid a accident, by pulling in each direction??
It works on planes, because there is a clear difference in ranks, and who
has the responcabillity, but a car in rush hour traffic, you are asking for
trouple.
