Is there a list of the games that use Steam or any similar activation
scheme? It seems to me that such games are worthless on the used/ebay
market. Thanks.

Thanks. Don't see WOW listed. I thought I had heard that "World or
Warcraft" had some sort of limited activation scheme?

Sort of. It's subscription based - you pay your monthly fee and play as
much as you like. It doesn't have an offline mode, so there's no use for
it unless you pay. Having said that, if you tire of the game you can
easily unsubscribe, stop the payments, and sell the game to whoever you
like.

Is your game "account" included in that sale ?
Are you sure ?

I dunno. I don't like the idea of paying for a game monthly so I've
never bothered with WoW. However, your account is NOT CONNECTED TO THE
PRODUCT. The actual game itself can be used by anyone. Hence, you can
sell the game without worry.

There isn't really anything to sell with WoW. When you subscribe, you
download the client.

Then why are there WoW boxes sold around the place?

There are boxes around because they originally wanted to maximize the amount
they could get from suckers who wanted to not only pay for the game, but
also pay a monthly fee. Now that all those suckers have paid, they're going
for the people who will only pay the monthly fee: hence the full game client
with 10-day free trial download.

Well, if you buy the game, you also get one month free play. The cost of the
game is about equal to what you pay for the game, so it's just convenience
to have the CD.

EVE did the same.

To clarify, you can download the EVE Client and get a two week trial,
BUT, the first paid month costs $20 not $15.

Still $5 for the client isn't a bad price.

That's exactly why I didn't buy WoW when it was new. Why would I
pay them over $50 for a game which then required a monthly fee to keep
playing? Plus I knew it would be a huge time sink.
